Anxious to Adventurous: A Dog Blog

Hello there!

This part of my site covers one of my favourite aspects of my life: Scotia. Scotia is my adventure buddy, partner in crime and roomie forever. Through this blog, I will be recounting our experiences together as I aid Scotia in her journey from the anxious, untrusting pup she came to me as to the confident, spunky gal she is becoming. Full disclosure, I am a crazy advocate for my dog. I believe in positive reinforcement, keeping training at her pace, and building a loving trusting relationship with my dog. I like to think of Scotia as a person that I have agreed to help. She is a huge part of my life and I am here to help her live her best life.

Scotia came to me September 28, 2019. She is a 17lb party-mixed breed. She has a natural mohawk down her spine and her ears occasionally make her look like yoda. She is a silent pup with all the spunk you can imagine.

What you will find in the posts below is our journey: training, learning, setbacks, trying new things, and my take on how a dog/owner relationship should be. I don’t know tons, so what I share is simply my side. I try to post on the 14th and 28th of each month. I hope you join us on this beautiful journey we are on.

Behaviour Medications

For about a year and a half, Scotia has been on behaviour medications. These meds help her navigate a world that feels terrifying to her. She has tried a few different meds and a ton of different doses to get to where she is today. At the very beginning, I started trying the calming treatsContinue reading “Behaviour Medications”

Treats are a massive part of training Scotia. Since Scotia has no interest in toys or play, treats are the only motivator that seems to work for her. Over the course of owning her, I have found her to be incredibly food motivated. This has also greatly helped with training. What treats I use nowContinue reading “Treats!”

Enrichment is a form of aiding a dog to simply be a dog in a controlled happy environment. Or that’s how I perceive it anyway. Dogs often like to dig, sniff, roll, rip, run, and so much more. Here I will chat about how I encourage Scotia to be a typical dog and do dogContinue reading “Enrichment”

Two years ago today, you entered my life. I could go on and on about how I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but instead I’d rather lavish in the relationship we have created. Scotia and I have an unbreakable bond. She follows me everywhere. She is always excited to see me,Continue reading “Gotcha”

Surgery Survivor

Before She Went in In a previous post, I wrote about Scotia losing a portion of one of her front teeth. We went to see the vet about it and he suggested we remove the rest of the tooth. Scotia had a tooth removed, her teeth cleaned, and a full x-ray of the rest ofContinue reading “Surgery Survivor”
